Paracelsus. 1549.
Theophrastus von Hohenheim (1493-1541), also more famously known as Paracelsus, was a Swiss physician, philosopher, and alchemist.
He was a prominent part of the Medical Renaissance in Europe, which was characterized by a renewed interest in ancient Greek, Roman, and Arabic-Persian medicine, and advocated for observation combined with received wisdom in medicine.
He also inspired the Paracelsianism medical movement, which developed after his death and was one of the most comprehensive alternatives to learned and Galenic medicine.
Like many other university-trained physicians at the time, Paracelsus was a practicing astrologer and incorporated astrology into his practice.
Besides his medical work, Paracelsus is also known for his prophecies, which some people believed predicted events such as the Thirty Years’ War within the Holy Roman Empire. They were reprinted numerous times, as demonstrated by these three different editions.
